October 2011, There's a surprising cool in the air for this time of year. The leaves are already heeding the call and hesitantly revealing the hues that will erupt in the days to come. The Temperature sits in the 60's, but the intense sun still makes the spring fed river inviting for a few. The day is filled with the anticipation of being on the water. We begin and Sophia scoops leaves with her net while flowing down the river, she notes the deep shades of green that appear in deeper water, skewing the true dimensions of large boulders that break the surface. Sightings of fish in the clear water and multiple kingfishers highlighted the day.
We made camp on a sandy gravel bar. Hammock hung, tent set up, kitchen spot picked out and it was time to fish. I broke out the fly rod and Sophia grabbed her spinner rod. We fished together, wading out into the water and taking precautions not to hook each other. As the shadows became long, the fish refused to bite and a chill chased Sophia and I back to camp. Kelli was preparing for a fire, soon a welcomed flamed appeared and we were ready to cook!
The next morning we spent more time than usual at the camp before loading the canoe. My wife spent time sketching the natural surroundings while I fished once again. Sophia and her also created some nature art, adding to the pleasant two days that was had by all.
