Bryant Creek, Sycamore access to Warren Bridge
It was a surprising February weekend, temps in the 70's on Saturday, a little rain early Sunday with temps recovering to the lower 70's. Justin contacted us about a weekend on the water. Unfortunately, Kelli wasn't able to make this trip, so a lot of thought went into this choice. Ultimately I felt real comfortable going with Justin and Elizabeth, another couple (Kylee and Caleb) and Dave also joined us. All of these individuals know there water and would be helpful if need be.
I asked Sophia if she wanted to spend an overnight on the water; this was prefaced with the responsibility of paddling in the bow the whole time, helping to set up camp and taking care of herself (to an extent). Sophia had an excellent outing, she was attentive to the disturbances on the water and she put some paddling tips to use. Sophia showed great expedition behavior while at camp. She helped set up the tent, gathered items, and when she had downtime she busied herself by playing with Dave's dog, Liza. Sophia also took care of herself by putting on sunscreen without prompting and doing the simple tasks that can sometimes feel hard when camping.
Sophia did have one little meltdown when she kept getting rocks in her sandals; she needed a little help cleaning up her feet before putting on her socks and boots, this was after a day of paddling and before dinner, we can all get a bit cranky at these times.
During the day, Sophia and I spied bats swooping along the water, we navigated some nice rapids that sprayed Sophia in the face and called for a paddle high five. At night we watched an almost full moon peek in and out of the clouds and shed glitter on the flowing water when visible. We also heard the black pug, Stella, at night, only sighting her LED lit collar.
In the morning we listened to the rain pelt the rainfly and watched the early morning pass from the tent door while gazing at the water, talking about life and identifying rocks. Sophia acknowledged her enjoyment of time with me, but she also missed her mom.
Thanks to the gang for a fun safe trip.
